DIY Rules

DIY access at Monterey Boat Haven is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. All customers must agree to these protocols before booking any projects.

1. Scope and Schedule Required

DIY slots fill quickly. To reserve your place:Submit a detailed scope of work and desired launch date at least two weeks in advance.

No confirmed scope, no reserved slot.

Changes to scope or launch date require 7 days’ notice and may affect your slot.

2. Abide to Boatyard Access Rules

Work hours are strictly: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Weekends only by prior arrangement Overnight stays are not permitted under any circumstances.

3. Labor is Yours Alone

All hands-on work must be by the boat owner. Any specialized contractors (electrical, composite, rigging, etc.) must be booked and billed separately through the boatyard office.

If you plan to bring help, inform the boatyard manager in writing and ensure all helpers are adult, insured, and approved.

4. Stay on Schedule

Stay on schedule or incur fees: Projects extending past your confirmed launch date accrue lay-day charges at the standard rate.

Emergency or weather delays do not waive fees.

5. Cleanliness is Non-Negotiable

A clean yard is a safe yard: Sweep your work area at the end of each day.

Contain and dispose of paint, solvents, and hazardous waste in designated bins.

Return any rented or borrowed equipment immediately after use.

6. Respect Parking and Premise Rules

Respect our operational flow: Park only in designated customer spots.

Do not park in the boatyard work aisles without explicit permission from the boatyard manager.

No blocking aisles, ramps, or equipment.

7. Use Approved Tools and Equipment

To protect people and property: Only approved tools and equipment may be used on site.

Provide proof of insurance if renting specialty gear off-site.

Yard stands, cradles, and rigging must not be adjusted without staff assistance.
